Salt Lake City - Former University of Utah ski team standout Ryan Forsyth is returning to the U. as the first assistant/head men's and women's alpine coach, Head Ski Coach Kevin Sweeney has announced. Forsyth, an assistant alpine coach at the U. last year, will be responsible for the technical dry land and on-snow training, and will be directly involved in all aspects of recruiting for the alpine team.
He earned All-America and all-conference honors in 1997, `98 and `99. He placed sixth in the giant slalom at the 1998 NCAA Championships and took seventh place in 1997. Prior to his career at the U., Forsyth was a member of the British Columbian Alpine Team and the Canadian Developmental Team.
Forsyth graduated with a degree in finance from the U. last spring.
"It is great to have Ryan back in our program. Having been a very successful competitor, Ryan brings continuity to the Alpine team. He has the technical expertise we need and understands skiing as a collegiate sport. He will be an excellent addition to this staff," said Head Men's and Women's Ski Coach Kevin Sweeney.
Ryan Forsyth Career Notes: * Three-time All-American (1997-'99). * Placed sixth in the giant slalom at the NCAA Championships in `98 and seventh place in `97. * Second place finish in both the giant slalom and slalom at the 1998 NCAA Western Regional. * Three-time all-conference selection (1997-'99). * A member of the British Columbian Alpine Team and the Canadian Developmental Team. * Finished in the top 10 at the Canadian Nationals and in the top 15 at the U.S. Nationals. * Raced for Canada in the World Junior Championships in Italy in 1992.
