The No. 15th ranked University of Utah women's volleyball team continued a seven-match win streak with a 3-1 (32-34, 30-20, 30-28, 30-19) win over the New Mexico Lobos. Utah improves to 15-4 overall, 7-2 in the MWC. New Mexico drops to 3-16 overall, 1-9 in MWC play.
Junior Sylva Strzinkova racked up 19 kills and 18 digs, while Sophomore Kim Turner notched 13 kills. Senior Alisa Geddes totaled 12 kills and 13 digs and Adrianne Bradley-Drake also had 12 kills. McKelle Stilson and Katrena Ellett both totaled 11 kills to lead the Utes past the Lobos. Strzinkova hit for .343, while Turner hit for .400. Sophomore Jackie Morrill posted 34 assists and 6 digs, and freshman Kelsie Kartchner notched 28 assists in the match. As a team Utah posted an .384 hitting percentage. Utah racked up 11.0 blocks in the match.
For the Lobos, Anna Reines totaled 21 kills for a .212 hitting percentage. Vanessa Shields added 12 kills for a .435 hitting percentage. Kelly Griffin posted 46 assists and had 13 digs. New Mexico hit for .223 in the match.
"New Mexico came out very aggressive in the first game," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "We found some weaknesses, and played very well the last three games."
UP NEXT: The Utes are back on the road on Sat., Oct. 27 vs. Air Force. Match times are set for a 7:00 p.m. start. On Fri., Nov. 2, Utah will host the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7:00 p.m. The Utes will match-up with the Colorado State Rams on Sat., Nov. 3, at 7:00 p.m. at Crimson Court. Utah will face the Aztecs of San Diego State at 7:00 p.m. in San Diego, Calif. The Utes will take on the Rebels of UNLV on Sat., Nov. 10, at 7:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, Nev. On Nov. 15-17, the Utes will compete for the MWC Tournament crown in Provo, Utah.
