HANCOCK, Vt. - After the first day of competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships, the University of Utah is in third place. The competition has been dominated by Western Region schools, with Denver in first and New Mexico in second. Denver's lead was contributed by a one-two-three finish in the men's 10K classical cross country event.
Utah's Petter Svendsen and Pat Casey provided the Utes with their top performances, as they finished fifth and sixth in the 10K. Torin Koos contributed a 22nd place finish for the Utes.
In the women's 5K, Lene Pedersen finished in 11th to be the top Utah finisher. Kristina Joder and Ingrid Anne Ingvoldstad finished in 25th and 26th place respectively.
Utah trails Denver by 73 points and New Mexico by 40. Competition will resume on Thursday with the men's and women's giant slalom races.
