OSFORD, Ohio - After falling to No. 15-Ranked Kentucky on Friday, the University of Utah women's soccer team rebounded with a 3-0 win over Miami University on Sunday. Katie Tate sparked the Ute attack by scoring her third goal of the season on a penalty kick opportunity. The goal came after the 20-minute mark and gave Utah the early advantage. The match was scoreless for the rest of the first period, as the Utes took a 1-0 advantage to the half.
The second half belonged to Utah, as the Utes continued the offensive pressure. Senior Amy Kofoed scored her first goal of the season from a Megan Maxwell cross kick in the 74th minute. The goal capped off Kofoed's 35th career goal at the U., just three goals short of the school record.
Utah's final score came from another penalty kick conversion by Missy Dennis in the final minutes of the match. Goalkeeper Lynnsey Asay earned the win and the shutout for the Utes, ending Miami's four-game win streak. It was the first time that the RedHawks had been shutout at home in 24 games.
The win improves the Utes to 3-2-0 on the season, while dropping the RedHawks to 4-3-0. Utah will be back at home this week, hosting Boston University on Sept. 27 at 5:00 p.m. and Arizona on Sept. 30 at 1:00 p.m.
