University of Utah senior linebacker Brooks Bahr was named a second-team Verizon Academic All-American today. He was a first-team academic all-district selection in both 2001 and 2002, but this marks his first appearance on the Academic All-America team.
Bahr, a 6-4, 228-pound senior from Bountiful, Utah, currently carries a 3.85 GPA as a graduate student in Utah's MBA program. He previously completed his undergraduate work in biology, graduating with a 3.95 GPA.
A candidate for all-conference honors on the field, Bahr finished the 2002 season with 59 total tackles, ranking him fourth on the team. He also contributed 5.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 4 pass breakups and 2 fumble recoveries. Bahr, who started every game, led Utah in tackles the last two games and had a career-high 12 tackles vs. Wyoming.
The Verizon Academic All-America team was created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA members nationwide vote on the candidates.
