OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The University of Utah swimming and diving teams finished the first day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The Ute men finished fourth with a score of 58. The women ended the day in sixth place with a score of 71. The meet will resume Thursday Feb. 28.
The men finished fourth in the 800 free relay (6:48.31) and fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:33.96). The men trail Brigham Young (162), UNLV (93) and Air Force (91). Wyoming (41) is in fifth place.
In the 800 free relay, Neringa Statkeviciute, Loren Sweny, Courtney McKinney and Kristen Kaiser set a Utah school record of 7:25.59, which is also an NCAA qualifying time. Utah's 200 medley relay team finished fifth (1:46.24). The Ute women trail Colorado State (101), Air Force (90), BYU (86), New Mexico (83) and UNLV (80). San Diego State (54) and Wyoming (40) round out the standings after day one.
