LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of Utah's women's tennis team suffers their second defeat on the road to top-ranked UNLV, . The (12-2) Rebels jumped all the way to the No. 17 spot after defeating top-seeded Indiana and Pennsylvania. After this lose the Utes fall to 1-2 in the Mountain West Conference and 7-9 overall.
In singles action, Sheri Esrock moved up to the No. 1 position to face No. 71 ranked Paulina Janus. Esrock was defeated by Janus, 6-1, 6-1. Linn Ronnberg battled extremely well in the first set, but was overwhelmed by No. 88 Gyorgyi Zsiros, 7-6, 6-0. Senior captain Irini Kotoglou was dowsed by Agnieszka Abram, 6-3, 6-1. Cassie Kasteler was defeated by Tracie Chong, 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Ellen Svensson was notched by Marianne Bakken, 6-4, 6-2 and Allison Hansen was ousted out by Amy Hadziosmanovic, 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action, Svensson and Kasteler took the Utes only victory over Chong and Hadziomanovic, 8-6. Kotoglou and Hansen teamed up to take on Janus Abram, but were defeated 8-2 and the Ronnberg and Esrock duo were beat out by Bakken and Zsiros, 8-4
Coming up, the Utes will be back at home and geared up to face their MWC foe New Mexico. The (6-8) Lobos are coming off a victory over No. 39 ranked Boise State. Utah will take on New Mexico Fri., Mar. 29 at 2:00 p.m. This match will be held at the Eccles Tennis Center.
