SALT LAKE CITY - Under the direction of new soccer coach, Rich Manning, the University of Utah soccer team announced its spring schedule this week. The Utes, who finished 11-7-0 in the 2001 season are looking to regroup for 2002 and are focused on making the NCAA tournament.
"Playing a spring schedule allows us to lay down a solid foundation for next fall," said Manning. "We have a challenging schedule of games ahead and I feel positive that we'll see some progress in the next several weeks."
The spring schedule kicks off on Mar. 9-10, as the Utes will travel to Cal State Northridge and UCLA. On Mar. 16, the Utes will host a bubble tournament, which will include two teams from Utah and Utah State, a team from Weber State and two local club teams.
On Apr. 5, the Utes will head to BYU to play a series of games against Southern Utah, BYU and Utah State. Utah will then travel to Utah State on Apr. 13 and will wrap up its spring schedule with an alumni game on Apr. 20.
"The players and coaches are all excited to get our spring season underway," Manning said. "The players have been very focused during practices. It will be fun to play some games now. Overall, this is a tremendous opportunity for everyone to get to know each other."
