THIS WEEK:
The rested and revitalized Ute ski team will have one more chance to improve its seeding nationally as they to compete in this year's NCAA Regional Championships, Sunday and Monday, Feb. 23-24, in Winter Park, Colo.
LAST WEEK:
After taking home the second-place finish at the Western State Invitational, the Utes are eager to improve to a first-place podium finish in the Regional Championships.
At the WSC Invite, the Utes were beat out by the Lobos of New Mexico by a margin of 568-552. The men's alpine was led by senior Jernej Bukovec and Pierre Olsson. Lina Johansson and Petra Svet headed the women's team. The men's nordic squad was headlined by seniors Ryan Quinn and Zack Simons. The women's cross country team was piloted by Katrin Smigun and Sara Svendsen.
QUOTING COACH KEVIN SWEENEY:
"We are in very good shape right now to score well at the Regional Championships," says Head Coach Kevin Sweeney. "We will use this event to secure final NCAA seed positions and then depart the following week for the NCAAs. Both alpine and cross country should perform well, as our training has been consistently despite the soft snow conditions."
"We are focused on skiing consistent in all events which should give us a podium finish. This will be the senior's last individual meet and I see no better way to prepare for NCAAs than finishing on top in Winter Park."
