SALT LAKE CITY - Eight University of Utah ski team members were honored and named Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athletes. These upstanding Utes were recognized for outstanding academic and athletic achievement over the past 2003 ski season.
"This certainly has been a banner season for us," said Head Coach Kevin Sweeney. "Academically our performance is right on par with our athletic performance. I could not be more happy with what these athletes have accomplished in the classroom."
Honored are, freshman Tony Bozzio, senior Jernej Bukovec, junior Lina Johansson, senior Torin Koos, freshman Ben Thornhill, sophomore Anna Sprague, sophomore Elsha Stephens and senior Petra Svet.
"I think this reflects on the athletic department and the University as a whole," remarked Sweeney. "We are focused on achieving excellence in performance in the classroom and while competing. We have excellent academic facilities and professors and wonderful student-athletes here. It's a real sense of accomplishment seeing the athletes going for it and that's what it's all about. This makes me very proud was a coach."
