San Diego, Calif. - The Utah swimming and diving teams beat UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon. Both the men and women had strong performances on their way to victories over San Diego. The men continued to build off their success this season as they rolled to a 168-130 victory, while the women bounced back from a tough loss by winning 153-139. Both the men and women won all but two events each, against the Tritons.
Cody Rempfer and Andrew Cole won three events each for the men. Rempfer won the 200 medley relay, 200 butterfly and the 200 breast, while Cole added victories in the 200 medley relay, 100 back and 200 back. Both Sterling Richards and Evan Castro won two events each. "We feel really good about our performance over these last two meets and we are looking forward to the conference schedule coming up," says Head Coach Michael Litzinger. The Utes improve to 5-0 overall on the season.
On the women's side, the Utes were led by Tessa Greegor who won the 100 breast (1:05.01), 200 breast (2:24.42) and the 200 medley relay (1:48.24). Utah also saw Rachel Curci, Jamie Trapp and Meghan Demchuk win two events each, as the team improves to 5-1 on the season. "We learned a lesson in Friday's loss and came back today very strong. I am real proud of the effort we gave today," adds Litzinger.
The women now await meets at home against New Mexico on Jan. 16 and Colorado State on Jan. 17. The men will resume action on Jan. 22, against Wyoming.
