SALT LAKE CITY - Utah senior Sterling Richards and junior Kelsey Patterson were named the MWC Men's and Women's Diver of the Week, respectively, after their performances against UCSD on Oct. 29. This marks the fifth career award for Richards, and the third for Patterson.
Richards claimed both diving titles in the dual meet win over UCSD, 160.5-138.5. The senior tallied 299.17 points in the 1-meter event and 329.02 in the 3-meter event. Both totals are top marks in the MWC this season.
Patterson took top honors in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter events in the women's 180-116 victory over UCSD. It helped the women's team to its 10th straight dual-meet victory. The junior scored 243.23 points in the 1-meter event, and 275.25 points in the 3-meter board. She trailed first place by 1.72 points. Patterson's 3-meter total is the best by a MWC diver this season.
Richards and Patterson return to action with the rest of the Utes this Thursday and Friday, Nov. 3-4, against the Pioneers of Denver in Denver, Colo.
