SALT LAKE CITY - A trio of University of Utah swimmers are going up against some of the best swimmers in the United States this week.
Alison McInturff, Marissa Martin and newcomer Jennifer Fredsall will be swimming at the 2005 Conoco USA Swimming Championships. The event runs from August 1-7 in Irvine, Calif.
"Utah Swimming is beginning to make itself known on the national level, and having our top three female athletes at our National Championships is a great opportunity for us," remarked Utah mentor Michael Litzinger. "Competing at summer nationals shows the level of commitment that these athletes make to be among the best."
McInturff is no stranger to swimming in this type of setting. The junior is the Mountain West Conference champion in the 100 and 200 free and will be swimming in the 200-meter freestyle this week. Martin, who holds the school record in the backstroke, will be swimming in her specialty while Fredsall will compete in the 50 free and 100 butterfly. An incoming freshman, Fredsall held the fifth fastest high school time in the 50 free last season.
