BOZEMAN, Mont.- Chelsea DiGrazia led the University of Utah cross country team as it finished fourth on 101 points today at the three-mile Montana State University Invitational.
"We ran much better this week than we've ran all year, and the results don't tell the whole story. I am very pleased with the girls' effort," said head coach Kyle Kepler.
Chelsea DiGrazia led the way again in finishing sixth with a time of 17:57. She also had a top-10 finish at the BYU Autumn Classic last week. Nicki Hugie and Ashlee Warnick ran well together, finishing 17th (18:26) and 19th (18:29), respectively. Kristin Taylor ran her best race of the year in finishing 23rd with a time of 18:54.
Rounding out the rest of the Utes are Lauren Endersen, finishing 36th (19:34), Kellie Anderson finishing 38th (19:42), and Janett Ern finishing 47th (20:31). A broken shoe cost Ern valuable time and points as she had to stop to fix it in order to race.
Utah State won the event with 24 points. Montana State took second with 74 while Idaho State (99), Utah (101), and Utah Valley State College (102) rounded out the rest of the pack.
Utah State's Tiffany Strickland won the race, clocking in at 17:16.
The Utes have two weeks off, where they are "...looking forward to getting some good training done, and then going and challenging ourselves again in Missoula," says coach Kepler. The women will race in the Montana Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Missoula, Mont.
