Utah to Play in Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl

SALT LAKE CITY--The University of Utah football team has accepted an invitation to play against Tulsa in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in Ft. Worth, Texas, on Dec. 23. The game, which will be televised by ESPN, has a 7 p.m. CST kickoff.
Tickets in the Utah fan section for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl are available by calling the Utah ticket office at (801) 581-UTIX or going online at utahtickets.com. Crimson Club priority will apply for all tickets ordered by December 5. After that time, tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
"We're excited about the opportunity to play in the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl," said Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. "We have several players on our team from the state of Texas and it will be a chance for them to play in front of friends and family. We also have made Texas a priority in our recruiting, so this will give our recruits an opportunity to see us first hand. The timing is nice in that a December 23 game will allow our players to go home and have a nice Christmas break. It does compact our practice schedule a bit, however, so we won't take a week off of practice the way we normally do when the bowl is after Christmas. Getting back on the field is probably the best therapy right now anyway, after that heartbreaker last week."
Utah (7-5, 5-3 Mountain West Conference) is making its fourth straight bowl appearance. Utah has won its last five bowl games, dating back to a 17-16 win over Fresno State in the 1999 Las Vegas Bowl. Other bowl wins during that span for the Utes included a 10-6 win over USC in the 2001 Las Vegas Bowl, a 17-0 shutout of Southern Mississippi in the 2003 Liberty Bowl, a 35-7 victory over Pittsburgh in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl (2004 season) and last year's 38-10 drubbing of Georgia Tech in the Emerald Bowl.
The Utes are 8-4 all-time in their bowl history and have made one previous postseason appearance in the state of Texas--the 1939 Sun Bowl, when Utah recorded a 26-0 win over New Mexico in its first-ever bowl appearance.
