COLUMBUS, OHIO - The University of Utah swimming and diving team completed competition at the Ohio State Invitational on Sunday. The Ute women finished third with 679 points, behind only South Carolina and Ohio State. The Utah men placed fifth, moving up one spot from day two, while Minnesota won the men's draw.
Day three included more records for the Utes as Amber Walter won the 100 free with a meet record time of 50.63, while Alison McInturff finished second in the event with her time of 50.93, both are NCAA qualifying times. Rachel Curci won the 1650 free in 16:56.96, while Karly Roberts followed her up with a time of 17:03.56 to finish second. The 400 free relay team of Walter, McInturff, Annie VanLeeuwen and Shannon McQueen set an Ohio State Invitational record with a time of 3:23.81, which is also an NCAA qualifying time. McQueen added a second-place finish in the 200 back (2:00.53) with her NCAA qualifying time. "The women are swimming very fast right now and that sets up for a great second semester for us," says Head Coach Michael Litzinger.
On the men's side, Andrew Jones set a Utah record in the platform diving with a score of 269.40. Marco Ferraro tallied a time of 15:55.49 to finish tenth in the 1650 free. Andrew Cole placed seventh in the 200 back (1:50.41). "The guys were very solid today," comments Litzinger. "We are ready to get to work on improving some things, but overall I'm very proud of this group."
