LAS VEGAS, NEV. - The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving team completed day one at the UNLV Invitational on Saturday.
The Ute women started off the day strong finishing second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.76. That team was made up of Natalie Edge, Annie VanLeeuwen, Jennifer Fredsall and Kristina Evans. Edge also had a second-place finish in the 50 free (23.82).
Shannon McQueen placed second in the 500 free with a time of 4:58.47. In the 200 IM Beth Gunderson swam a career best time of 2:06.34 which was also good for second.
For the Utah men, Garret Beaman led the way winning the 200 IM in 1:51.49. Teammate Adam Oliver placed third in the 500 free with his time of 4:32.85. In the 50 free, George Evans was the fastest Ute and placed eighth with a time of 21.39.
"It was a great first day," comments head coach Greg Winslow. "We had a lot of career best times today and I'm really happy with that. Hopefully we can improve on that tomorrow as well and keep swimming our best."
