Manhattan, Kan. - The University of Utah women's tennis team faced No. 61 Kansas State on Friday for a 5-2 loss.
Although suffering losses in their doubles matches, No. 67 Elizabeth Ferris and Emily Kwok went on to earn victories in singles play.
Ferris took on Viviana Yrureta from the Wildcats at the No. 1 slot. Ferris, a junior and native from Anaheim, Calif., edged out the first set for a 6-4 win. Yrereta answered right back with a 6-4 win for the second set. The Ute and Wildcat battled for the tie breaker with Ferris pulling ahead to take the set 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Kwok, a junior from Richmond, British Columbia, battled at the No. 2 slot against Tamar Kvaratskhelia. The two played through two games before the Wildcat retired. Kwok took the win 1-1, ret.
