Women's Tennis Drops Decision to Kansas 4-3

Lawrence, Kan. - The University of Utah women's tennis team played a tough match on Saturday against the University of Kansas for a 4-3 loss.

Although the Utes didn't end up winning the doubles point in the match, Cheyenne Reveche and Emily Kwok still pulled out a win. Playing at the No. 2 slot, the Ute duo faced Kunigunda Dorn and Stephanie Smith from the Jayhawks for an 8-3 win.

In singles play, No. 67 Elizabeth Ferris led the Utes at the No. 1 slot against Elizaveta Avdeeva. The Jayhawk took the first set 7-6(5), but Ferris came back to match it in the second set with the same 7-6(5) win. The tie breaker was another close call, but Ferris took control of the court to take the set and match 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 7-5.

Kwok played a three set battle with Dorn from Kansas. Playing at the No. 2 slot, the Ute took the first set 6-3. Dorn answered right back in the second set with a 6-2 win. Kwok buckled down for the tie breaker and ended her match on a high note by taking it 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.

Giving the Utes their last point in the overall match was Reveche. The Ute faced Lauren Hommell in the No. 4 slot. The Ute edged out a 6-4 win in the first set, but was shut down 6-0 by Hommell in the second set. In the tie breaker, the two went point for point until the Ute pulled ahead to take the set and match at 6-4, 0-6, 7-5.
