TAOS RIVER, N.M. - Thirty-three days and three states later, the Montana State Invitational finally concluded, as the University of Utah Skiin' Utes placed third in their third-straight event. The men's and women's GS races, which had been delayed twice due to inclement weather, were conducted Thursday nearly 1,000 miles south of their originally intended location.
Tague Thorson led the men's side, capturing third place with a combined time of 1:49.90. Following Thorson was Scott Veenis, who finished 10th with a time of 1:50.62. Senior Kyle Darling raced to a 16th-place finish, clocking a 1:51.54 two-run time.
The women's team was led by former Olympian Chirine Njeim. The Belgrade Beirut, Lebanon native cruised to a time of 1:54.20, good enough for fifth place. Sophomores Mikaela Grassl (13th, 1:55.73) and Chelsea Laswell (18th, 1:56.32) also placed in the top 20.
The alpine and Nordic teams will compete Friday and Saturday in the UNM Invitaional in Red River and Taos River, N.M.
