EUGENE, ORE. - The University of Utah women's tennis team ended their three-day road trip on a high note as they strode past San Francisco for a 5-2 win. The Utes swept past the Dons in doubles play, to earn the doubles point three days running.
Starting off Sunday's competition, Andrea Maughan and Erin Monson dominated Sarah Oudomvilay and Jessica Kapoor 8-0 at the No. 3 spot. Stepping in at the No. 2 spot, Evgenia Kryuchkova and Leigh Walsh faced Mylene Martin and Jenny Sperry from the Dons' squad. The Ute duo defeated Martin and Sperry at 8-3 to determine the doubles point.
At the top spot, Elizabeth Ferris and Emily Kwok took on Emma Taylor and Jennifer-Lee Heinser for an 8-5 victory to end doubles play.
In singles play, Karine Bourdages took on Oudomvilay at the No. 5 slot for a 6-3,6-2 win for the Utes. Stepping in at the No. 2 spot, Kryuchkova faced Taylor from the Dons' squad. The Ute shut down Taylor 6-1, 6-3 to bring Utah to 3-0.
Maughan stepped in at the No. 6 slot to face San Francisco's Kapoor. The Ute sealed the overall match with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over the Don. Playing at the No. 3 spot, Monson battled Martin for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 hard-earned win.
"The San Francisco match culminated a weekend with a lot of tennis where we competed well," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "We look forward to making bigger strides throughout the rest of the season."
