BOZEMAN, Mont. -- The University of Utah sits in third place after earning 245 points in Friday's events at the NCAA West Regional. Colorado occupies first place with 266 points.
"It looks like we have a strong chance to qualify a full team for the NCAA Championships," said Director of Skiing, Eli Brown. "We'll see how tomorrow goes."
The men's alpine team made a strong showing Friday, with three skiers placing in the top ten of the men's GS. Scott Veenis finished fourth, earning 27 points, while Kyle Kung was seventh, tacking 25 points. Thomas Zumbrunn was ninth with 22 points.
"Our men's alpine team was unbelievable today," Brown said.
The women's alpine team was led by Chirine Njeim, who picked up 23 points with an eighth-place finish. Mikaela Grassl earned 17 more points with her 15th-place finish. Eva Huckova did not finish.
Snorri Einarsson led the Utes in the 10K Classic, finishing fifth with 26 points. Even Sletten was ninth (22 pts.), and Ben Fick was 12th (19 pts.).
On the women's side, Sara Schweiger's 10th-place, 21-point finish paced the Utes. Annelies Cook was 11th with 20 points, while Zoe Roy placed 13th, tallying 18 points.
