THIS WEEK:
The Skiin' Utes head to Taos and Red River, New Mexico for the University of New Mexico Invitational Feb. 8-9. The alpine events will be held at the Taos Ski Valley, and the Nordic events will be contested at the Enchanted Forest Ski Center. Thursday will feature the men's giant slalom, which was postponed due to inclement weather at last week's Western State Invitational. On Friday, skiers will compete in the men's and women's classic Nordic events as well as the giant slalom. On Saturday, skiers will face off in the freestyle Nordic events as well as the slalom. The UNM Invite will be the Utes last regular season event. The team will compete next at the NCAA West Regional Feb. 22-23.

LAST WEEK:
With only the men's GS remaining, the Utes trail Colorado by four points, 506.5-502.5. CU edged the Utes in the Nordic standings by 3.5 points (294.5-291) and lead the alpine standings by a half point (212-211.5). In alpine, Eva Huckova continued her impressive first season, winning the women's slalom and finishing second in GS. The men's slalom was all Utah, with Tague Thorson picking up his first victory of 2008, while Thomas Zumbrunn tied for third, and Scott Veenis took sixth. In the Nordic competition, Snorri Einarsson and Even Sletten continued to dominate for the Utes. Sletten took the 10K Classic and Einarsson finished second. Einarsson won the 15K Freestyle, and Sletten finished second. The duo combined for 118 points during the weekend. The women's 5K Classic featured four Utes in the top 10. Zoe Roy finished fourth, Kjersti Boe placed fifth, Sarah MacCarthy was seventh, and Annelies Cook took 10th.
TEAM NORGE:
Snorri Einarsson and Even Sletten have finished 1-2 in three events in 2008, a unique and impressive achievement. At the Western State Invitational Friday, Sletten finished first in the 10K Classic Friday, while teammate Einarsson finished second. In the 15K Freestyle Saturday, it was Einarsson finished first, and Sletten took second. Both skiers are native Norweigans, with Einarsson hailing from Tromso and Sletten from Lillehammer.
SUPER SLOVENKA:
Newcomer Eva Huckova turned in her second collegiate victory at the Western State Invitational in the women's slalom. The fantastic freshman also finished second in the GS. At the Utah Invitational, only her second collegiate event, she finished third in slalom and first in GS. Huckova hails from the city of Banska Bystricka and represented her country at the 2006 Torino Olympics, finishing 27th in the giant slalom.
FEEL-GOOD SNORRI:
Sophomore Snorri Einarsson turned in his third victory of 2008 at the Western State Invitational in Crested Butte, Colo.The defending national champion's victory in the 15K Classic was the fifth of his collegiate career, and the third time this season he has won the event. Einarsson won the 15K Freestyle at the 2008 Colorado and Utah Invitationals, and in 2007 Einarsson won the 15K Classic at the Denver Invitational and the 20K Classic at the NCAA Championships.
