DES MOINES, Iowa - Alyssa Abbott and Chelsea DiGrazia both earned NCAA regional qualifying times, finishing second and third, respectively, in the 1,500 meters at the Drake Relays on Thursday, April 24.
Abbott and Digrazia both ran personal best times, with Abbott crossing the line in 4:25.38 and Digrazia in 4:26.39.
"Alyssa and Chelsea ran an amazing race," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "They just dropped the hammer in the last 700 meters with the wind blowing in their face down the homestretch and finished very strong. It was insane. They showed that they belonged there today. I am so ecstatic and proud of them. They have both worked so hard, and they worked really well together. It was a great day for them."
Lauren Endersen also had a top-five finish for the Utes, placing fifth in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:39.33.
"She held onto the lead pack as long as she could," Kepler said. "She wasn't running for time, and a top-fiver was a solid performance.
"We need to keep the momentum going that the distance runners build up today through the weekend. I am very pleased with today's events."
