SALT LAKE CITY - Members of the Ute ski team have begun to wind down their spring campaigns in both cross country and alpine.
The alpine teams have been busy competing in several International Skiing Federation races.
The women competed in Vail, Colo., April 3-6, with Eva Huckova winning a giant slalom and slalom race, while finishing third in a second GS race. Chirine Njeim also recorded three top-10 finishes, with a 7th and 9th in the GS while finishing eighth in the slalom. Mikaela Grassl placed 7th and 10th in a pair of GS races.
The men's alpine contingent competed in Breckenridge, Colo., April 3-4. Thomas Zumbrunn had a pair of top-15 finishes in the giant slalom to lead the Utes, finishing 13th and 14th, respectively. The team then moved on to Vail, April 5-6, for the slalom races. Kyle Kung had a pair of top-10 finishes, placing fifth and ninth over the two days. Tague Thorson had a fifth-place run, while Zumbrunn placed eighth in one of the two races. Herman Lager's best finish was 16th on the first day.
On the cross country side, Casey Simons, who recently completed his eligibility, was named to the US Biathlon Development team.
The Utes are preparing to finish off the spring with the `Celebration on the Snow' reunion, April 18-20, at Snowbird Mountain Resort.
