SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's cross country team will travel to Palo Alto, Calif. this weekend for the Stanford Invitational. The 6k race will be held at Stanford Golf Course on Saturday morning.
UTAH IN REVIEW
Last week the Utes placed fifth out of eight teams at the Montana State Invitational in Bozeman, Mont. Senior Chelsea DiGrazia crossed the line first for the Utes on the three-mile course. She earned fourth overall with a 17:21 finish time.
One of the biggest goals the Utes have for this season is to get their top five runners to finish within 30 seconds of each other. Thus far in the season, they haven't been able to attain this feat; however, this week the Utes will be running their top eight athletes for the first time.
Last year the Utes finished tenth of 28 teams. DiGrazia finished 16th overall clocking a 15:05 time. With Utah running their top athletes, they will be looking to improve in this first major race of the year.
Coach Kepler's Thoughts
"This is the first big race of the year. Barring any issues over the next few days, we plan on running out top eight for the first time. This meet will have 25-30 teams so it will be extremely important to get out and in good position early," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "Even though this is our first 6K, it doesn't change anything. It will allows us to be more patient, but at the same time it requires more mental toughness."
