Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen
"I'm thankful for the win. We've been working on defense a lot. I thought at times our defense was very good and our rebounding was very good."
"Last year I needed to rest some of my guys, but this year I need my players to play, and learn, and grow, and get better. In some ways it is hard, with the score you want to be respectful to the other team, but the team still needs to learn and grow. I struggled with how many minutes to play certain guys. I pulled the older guys and I was thankful that I could play some of the younger guys."
"I didn't like the way we ran the floor in the first half. We seem to only be running when we think we are going to get the ball, and that is not how my team is going to play. We have to run on every possession. I thought we started out the game sharing the ball well. We have been better with our turnovers this year but it felt like all of them were casual, careless turnovers, and I am concerned about that."
Senior center David Foster
"My mentality helped me this game. Against Utah State I struggled with getting to the help side and stopping them from scoring inside the paint. Tonight it was a matter of doing it, making sure I was there to help out especially when they go to the four man and pass it over the top, I always need to be there."
Freshman guard/forward Shawn Glover
"When we get in coach wants us to play our minutes with as much force as we can. Guard, defend, not turn the ball over, and play as a team. It feels good to contribute to the team as a freshman with the points I had."
Southern Head Coach Rob Spivery
"We came out flat and [Utah] came out very good. They shot the ball very well. On Utah's home floor, you have to expect them to score a lot. They were very good tonight."
"We couldn't make any baskets ourselves. We found ourselves getting down very early in the game. I was concerned about that coming into this game, being able to keep pace, scoring wise. We gave up 88 points tonight and that's too many for us."
