SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team embraces the `Power of Pink' on Feb. 8 against Wyoming with events supporting breast cancer awareness. Fans wearing pink earn free admission and free pink hankies will be given away to fans that arrive early. Cancer survivors will be recognized at halftime.
Utah will also be celebrating National Women and Girls in Sports Day. A postgame basketball clinic and autograph session will be held.
The Utes (15-6) rallied for a come-from-behind victory over TCU on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 73-63. They begin the second half of the Mountain West Conference campaign with an 8-0 record and a two-game lead in the conference race. Utah has won 24 consecutive conference games, defeating each team in the MWC three times during that span. Their 11-game winning streak is tied for the fifth longest in the country.
Utah is ranked nationally in several categories, including second in the nation in rebound margin (81.0). The Utes are also in the top 20 in field goal percentage defense (11th - 34.8), field goal percentage (15th - 45.5) and rebound margin (16th - 7.9). Individually, Morgan Warburton is ranked third in the nation in free-throw percentage (92.4) and is 24th in scoring (18.6 points per game).
Wyoming is 11-10 on the year, 3-5 in the MWC, but the Cowgirls are coming off a 52-50 win over New Mexico. Hillary Carlson leads Wyoming with 11.0 points per game while Megan McGuffey is pulling down a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game.
Utah and Wyoming first met back on Jan. 7, with the Utes coming away with a 70-52 win in Laramie after taking a 31-18 lead at halftime. Kalee Whipple had 32 points for Utah along with 10 rebounds. Wyoming was led by Kristen Scheffler's 11 points.
