LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Four members of the University of Utah women's tennis team advanced through the first and second singles rounds on the opening day of the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships, Wednesday, in Las Vegas. Day two of the tournament will begin with the opening round of doubles in the morning, followed by a second doubles round and the singles round of 32.

Top-seeded Anastasia Putilina defeated Heather Davidson of Montana 7-5, 6-2, in the second round after receiving a bye in the first. In the round of 32 the 67th-ranked Utah junior will face Jaci West of Utah State.

Senior Evgenia Kryuchkova, the No. 8-seed, topped Wyoming's Kim van Ginkel 7-5, 6-4, in the second round after also receiving a bye in the first. The Ute will take on No. 17-28-seeded Florence DeVrye of Nevada in the round of 32.

No. 17-28-seeded Sarah Pham topped Yumi Hasegawa of Northern Arizona 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, in the first round before defeating Wyoming's Sasa Nemcova 5-7, 6-1, 6-0, in the second. In the round of the 32 the Utah freshman will face No. 9-16-seed Nives Pavlovic of UNLV.

Junior Missy Harris downed Montana State's Wena Tsan 6-0, 6-1, in the second round after topping Natalie Dunn of Denver 6-4, 6-2, in the first. The Ute will take on third-seeded, 72nd-ranked Jana Albers of UNLV in the round of 32.

Redshirt sophomore Lexi Provancha defeated Jodie Williams of New Mexico State, 6-2, 7-6(1), in the first round before falling to No. 9-16-seeded Emma Verberne of Nevada in the second.
