Utah Finds Success at Barb Chandler Classic

BOISE, Idaho – The Utah women's tennis team started off the fall slate with strong performances at the Barb Chandler Classic.

SINGLES
Avery Olsen had a strong weekend going 3-0 in singles action starting with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Tori Jeppson from Weber State. The next day, Olsen defeated Ava Sycamore from Washington State with 6-4, 6-3 scores. Olsen picked up a three set victory over Alicia Morales with 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 scores on the third day.

Emi Dowdell found success during her weekend going 2-1 in singles action. Dowdell took the win against Gabriella Harper from Washington State with 6-2, 6-4 scores. On the second day, Dowdle continued with momentum defeating Paulina Aleksandrowicz from Weber State 6-0, 6-2. The third day, Dowdell fell to Valentina Vachkova from Boise State in a three set battle with 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 scores.

Lily Stohl started the weekend with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Savannah Johnson from Weber State. Stohl had a mighty finish defeating Chisato Kanemaki from Washington State with 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 scores.

Nike Lenz had a big win with 6-1, 6-4 scores against Wencong Song from Weber State.

DOUBLES
The Utes dominated doubles action with Avery Olsen and Emi Dowdell going 3-0 and Nike Lenz and Lily Stohl going 3-1.

Olsen and Dowdell picked up an 8-4 win against Weber State's Nataly Valdivia Rojas and Wencong Song. Another strong performance came from the Utah duo the next day with a victory against Ava Sycamore and Chisato Kanemaki from Washington State with a 8-4 score. In their final doubles match, Dowdell and Olsen defeated Carla Grignac and Valentina Vachkova with an 8-6 score.

Lenz and Stohl fell short in their first doubles match, but bounced back in an 8-3 win against Emma Roberts and Savannah Johnson. The Ute pair went on to defeat Clara Schoen and Chisato Kanemaki from Washington State with a 8-5 score. Lenz and Stohl finished with a strong 8-0 win against Tori Jeppson and Paulina Aleksandrowicz from Weber State.

UP NEXT
The Utes continue fall action with the San Diego Intercollegiate Invitational on Sept. 24-27 in San Diego, Calfi. and then the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Oct. 2-4.
