Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen
"I'm proud of this group of guys. They responded well from our last game. I thought our grit was there defensively to start the game and we rebounded the ball like we needed too. I thought Hines gave us a lift in the starting lineup with his defense and his toughness. And I thought Kupets, his energy going after the loose ball he dove on in the first seven minutes of the game, was a big play for us."
"I have been asking this team to play with more grit, more toughness, and I thought we did that. It was the most offensive rebounds we have had since I have been the coach and we saw a career high for Kupets. I thought we got a lot from a lot of guys, which this team has to do. I am excited about the rebounding. I thought for about 30 minutes tonight we were pretty good at it. I am thankful for the win."
On Clyburn's performance
"He is just a big-time player. He scores off the flow. He can make threes, he is a great offensive rebounders. He gets to the rim. Our guys are starting to get a little chemistry on their drives, finding each other and playing together. I thought we were really aggressive driving the ball and we have to drive the ball. It starts with him [Clyburn] and [Josh Watkins] obviously. He is a good player.
On Kupets' performance
"Chris Kupets is a talented offensive player, who has ball skills and can play the one or the two. I've compared him to Tyler Kepkay, he is that kind of player with his versatility. He is really trying to embrace the system, how we guard, what we do, and sometimes when you play for the team good things happen to you."
Junior wing Will Clyburn
"It was very important to get back on track after losing last week. We stumbled in two games. I think a lot of the guys got down on themselves and in practice they told us `it's not the end of the world', we just had to get back on top, so I think we came out and played very well."
"Over the last two practices, coach has been telling us about being aggressive and getting on the ball, and to have some grit and toughness. I think everybody came in with that attitude. We have to be going out to Bradley with confidence, everybody should go there with confidence and have the same aggressiveness and toughness we had today."
Junior guard Chris Kupets
"I just tried to come in and give the team toughness, grit, and whatever I could to help the team win. I was just trying my best to do that because we have been getting really tough and gritty all practice. So I just turned that over to the game.
"It was really important [to bounce back] after our losses. Coach was always really hard on us about being tough and getting rebounds and stop turning the ball over. So we came out hungry tonight and it showed on the court."
Sophomore center Jason Washburn
"Rebounding starts with the bigs and it was one of the primary reasons we lost at Utah State and here to Oral Roberts. We did a lot of rebounding drills in the past two or three days. And like [Kupets] said, we just took it to the game. We just went at the offensive glass and good things happen when you go."
"We talked a lot about rebounding and defending the ball better, and [committing] less turnovers, and I think we took all three of those to heart tonight. The guards did a great job keeping those guys in front of them and I was just trying to be there whenever they got beat, just trying to help."
Fresno State Head Coach Steve Cleveland
"Well, I think the difference in the game was the offensive rebounding. I think Utah did a great job on the offensive boards, they really hurt us there. I mean, you hold a team to 37% shooting in their building and 22% from the three ...but their penetration really hurt us midway in the second half. I thought [Chris] Kupets did great job attacking us and we just didn't do a good job containing him. Really it came down to offensive rebounds."
"We cut the deficit but we didn't get off to the kind of start we wanted to in the second half. I thought Utah played very well defensively. They have a presence, they have a lot of size and we just didn't match up very well with them on the boards."
"We have a young team, an inexperienced team that is playing that way. You can't turn it over 19 times on the road. I think that the positive thing about this is that in the second half we shot 68% from the field and 44% from the three, which is an improvement for this team, but really the offensive rebounds were the things that really hurt us."
