SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team opens the 2010-11 season with a trip to Dallas, Texas, to face SMU on Friday, Nov. 12. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. CT in Moody Coliseum. Radio is available at ESPN 700 AM with live stats available on UtahUtes.com.
The Utes enter a new era in 2010-11, as Anthony Levrets enters his first season as interim head coach. He will coach one of the youngest teams in the nation with just one junior and two seniors on the roster. Three starters return from the 2009-10 season - 2010 MWC Freshman of the Year Taryn Wicijowski, junior Janita Badon and sophomore Rachel Messer.
Utah overpowered NAIA school Warner Pacific in exhibition during the preseason, 111-56. Utah played all 13 players available and each player scored at least three points. Michelle Plouffe tallied 19 in her Utah debut while Wicijowski had 15 points with a team-high nine rebounds.
SMU returns two starters from last year's 20-11 campaign, finishing tied for second in Conference USA with a 10-6 record. The Mustangs fell to New Mexico in the opening round of the WNIT. Junior Christine Elliott averaged 10.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
Utah leads the all-time series against SMU, 6-4. Utah defeated the Mustangs in Salt Lake City last season, 72-58.
