LOS ANGELES - C.J. Cron's solo home run in the third inning was the only scoring for the Utes as baseball fell to USC, 8-1
Cron has homered in four-straight contests. He also hit a home run in all three games of the TCU series last weekend. The sophomore has a 12-game hitting streak.
The Utes left seven runners on base throughout the game.
USC scored solo runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings before breaking the game open with a four-run eighth. Mike O'Neill went 3-for-4 and scored two runs to lead the Trojans. Ricky Oropesa was 2-for-2 with three RBI. Alex Sherrod also had two hits with two RBI.
Jordan Whatcott allowed four runs over five innings on the mound, striking out four. He falls to 4-7 on the year. Andrew Wilding pitched 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and Tyler Andersen struck out both batters that he faced in the eighth inning.
Utah and USC play game two of the series on Saturday, May 8, beginning at 3:00 p.m. (PT).
