SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team begins its final go-round in the Mountain West Conference at home against Air Force on Wednesday, Jan. 5, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. Utah is holding Military Appreciation Day. All armed forces members and their families will receive free admission with military ID. The first 150 fans will receive a free giant women's basketball pen.
Utah is on a three-game winning streak, coming off a hard-fought 73-61 victory against in-state rival Utah State. Four players were in double figures for the Utes, led by 19 from Iwalani Rodrigues.
The Utes are averaging 78.7 points over their last three games after averaging 55.9 points in their first 11 games. Utah finished its non-conference campaign with a 7-7 record.
Air Force is 5-8 on the season. The Falcons are coming off two tough games over the weekend, including an 80-75 overtime win over Colgate and a one-point loss to Navy (63-62).
"Air Force is greatly improved this season," Utah interim head coach Anthony Levrets said. "Their staff and players have done a great job. They are a gritty, well-coached group that has made huge improvements from last year to this year. It will be a challenge for us, like it is every night in the Mountain West Conference."
Utah has never lost to Air Force, holding a 30-0 series lead dating back to 1998.
