Maria Graefnings and Miles Havlick both won their respective nordic freestyle races on the final day of the Denver University Invitational Sunday in Aspen, Colo. The Utes totaled 869 points in the team standings for second place after the three-day event.
Graefnings earned her seventh victory in eight races this season in the 21k freestyle race after posting a time of 1:05.44.3, while Sarah MacCarthy (1:10.59.0) and Marta Larsen (1:11.22.1) took eighth and ninth place, respectively. In addition, Rose Kemp placed 13th in 1:12.23.3 while Madeleine Talkington took 28th with a time of 1:19.01.8. Parker Tyler was the 32nd-place finisher with a time of 1:22.29.5.
Miles Havlick took the title in the men's 21k freestyle with a time of 59:23.8. Tom Smith joined Havlick in the top five with a fifth-place effort in 59:58.8, while Ian Havlick was Utah's final scorer with an 18th-place finish in 1:02.17.2. Rolf Figi rounded out Utah's day with a 21st-place effort after crossing the finish line in 1:02.49.1.
Next up for the Utes is the NCAA West Regional/Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Skiing Association Championships Feb. 25-26 at Park City and Soldier Hollow.
