SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team has a quick turnaround this week, taking on second-place TCU in Fort Worth on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT (5:30 p.m. MT). The game will be televised on The Mtn.
The Utes (13-14, 6-7 MWC) got a big monkey off their backs in their last game, snapping a three-game losing streak with a buzzer-beater victory over New Mexico on Saturday, 61-58. On the Ute inbound in the final seconds, Rachel Messer threw a high pass to Michelle Plouffe at mid-court, who tipped it to Janita Badon. Badon threw a no-look pass to an open Rodrigues at the baseline, and her three-pointer swished cleanly into the net as the buzzer sounded for the win.
Utah had rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit in the victory.
"We had a great win against New Mexico," interim head coach Anthony Levrets said. "It could not have come at a better time for a team that feels like it's improving, but has lost a few games and needed a win."
TCU is currently second in the MWC with a 10-3 record, 18-9 overall. The Horned Frogs had won four in a row before falling to BYU on Saturday, 70-60.
"TCU is a very talented basketball team that plays multiple defenses," Levrets said. "We need to execute against what defenses they are playing, and make our open shots."
TCU defeated Utah in their first meeting this season in Salt Lake City, 56-46. With the score tied eight times with five lead changes, Utah kept the game close until the final six minutes of the game when TCU pulled away for the win. Rodrigues led Utah with 16 points while Starr Crawford had a team-high 15 points and eight rebounds for the Horned Frogs.
Utah leads the all-time series with TCU, 9-8.
