Salt Lake City - After a spirited warm-up at the Red and White Alumni meet last weekend, the Utah Swimming and Diving team heads to southern California to face some of the toughest schools in the conference. On Friday, the Utes will swim at Spieker Aquatics Center where both the men's and women's squad will face UC Santa Barbara, while the women will also have a duel meet UCLA and Oregon State at 1 p.m. PT. On Saturday, the women take on USC in Los Angeles at 12 p.m. PT.
"This weekend is going to be great for us to see where our athletes are after five weeks of training," said Utah head coach Greg Winslow. "It's been grueling to just race against each other, so it'll be nice to go up against actual competition. I can't think of a better way to start the season than racing against the best teams in the country."

US Santa Barbara
Men
Last season, the Gauchos finished sixth in the Pac-12 Championships, beating out Arizona State, but falling just short of the fifth-place Utes.
Women
Junior Andrea Ward returns after winning three individual events at the MPSF Championships and being named Athlete of the Year. Katie Records will also return after earning Freshman of the Year honors. Ten Gauchos earned All-MPSF First Team honors for the 2011-12 season with nine athletes grabbing second-team recognition. Gauchos head coach Gregg Wilson was named MPSF Coach of the Year.
Oregon State
The Beavers finished their 2011-12 season eighth in the Pac-12. Rachel O'Brien, now a senior, represented OSU at the NCAA Championships where she finished 17th in the 200 fly (1:56.87), falling just short of All-American status.
UCLA
UCLA finished its 2011-12 campaign taking fifth in the Pac-12. Four 2012 NCAA qualifiers return to the Bruins, including Anna Senko, Allison Gargalikis, Kathryn Murphy and Noelle Tarazona.
USC
USC women's swimming and diving has placed third in the Pac-12 (Pac-10 in 2010 and 2011) for three consecutive years. The Trojans welcome back 1000 free and 1650 free USC record holder Haley Anderson, who competed at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where she earned a silver medal in the Marathon 10K.
Next Time Out
On October 27, Utah women's swimming and diving will welcome the California Golden Bears to Ute Natatorium. Competition time is to be announced.
