INDIANAPOLIS--
The NCAA announced its annual and multi-year Academic Performance Report (APR) for NCAA Division I schools today and the University of Utah achieved its highest grade yet. The APR is designed to provide a real-time measure of eligibility, retention and graduation of all Division I student-athletes.
Under APR guidelines, a player who transfers from an institution in good academic standing does not negatively impact the APR of either the former or the new school.
The multi-year average for Utah's teams rose to 978--up from its previous record score of 976 set last year and a performance that easily exceeds the NCAA minimum requirement of 925 and the new 930 benchmark to be eligible for postseason competition. The latest multi-year APR calculations include scores from 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11.
For the second-straight year, Utah's men's tennis team was recognized by the NCAA for a multi-year APR that ranks in the top 10-percent of all Division I tennis teams. Joining men's tennis with a perfect 1,000 APR in 2010-11 were the men's skiing, women's basketball and gymnastics teams.
The multi-year APR rates for women's swimming (990) and men's tennis (1,000) ranked No. 1 in their sports in the Pac-12, while football (966), cross country (993) and women's basketball (991) ranked in the top two in the league.
Nine Utah teams saw increases in their multi-year scores from a year ago: women's basketball (+27), men's golf (+21), gymnastics (+13), football (+10), women's cross country (+8), women's swimming (+6), men's skiing (+4), women's indoor track (+3), and volleyball (+1).
