Utah skier Jeremy Elliot has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII At-Large First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Elliot tied for second in the giant slalom at the 2013 NCAA Championships on Mar. 6 and helped the Utes claim second place at the national meet for the third consecutive season.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment and a very honorable award," Utah Director of Skiing Kevin Sweeney said. "The team is extremely proud of Jeremy's results, both on and off the race course. It is impressive to be selected to CoSIDA, and Jeremy follows in the footsteps of more recent former Ute recipients Eva Huckova and Torjus Krogdahl. Congratulations Jeremy on a well-deserved award!"
The Park City, Utah native posted five top-three efforts this season, including a runner-up finish in the giant slalom at the RMISA Championships on Feb. 23 in Middlebury, Vt.
"I'm honored to be recognized for the time I logged on my studies," Elliot said. "We have a good set up here that really allows for success both in athletics and academics. What a great experience it has been!"
Elliot also won the giant slalom of the Utah Invitational, added a second-place finish in the giant slalom at the RMISA Qualifier in Eldora, Colo., and open the season on Jan. 7 before finishing third in the giant slalom at the Denver Invitational on Jan. 12 in Winter Park, Colo.
Elliot carries a 3.78 cumulative GPA, while studying Mass Communication at the University of Utah.
