Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham
Opening statement: "[Oregon] is a great football team. The Oregon Ducks may be one of the best teams in the nation. They have a bunch of playmakers and probably the best quarterback in college football."
On his team's performance: "I liked the way we hung in there. Some of the things we did down the stretch weren't good enough to help us win.
"I thought we played well early in the game. We had a few sacks and a touchdown drive. You just can't play a team of that caliber and expect to win with the mistakes we made."
On Travis Wilson: "I thought [Wilson] came in and battled. He nearly threw for 300 yards and he responded well tonight. He had a couple of picks and those are mistakes we need to correct."
Utah Wide Receiver and Returner Kaelin Clay "I know how important points are, especially against a team like this. I take full responsibility for what happened tonight. I will take the criticism and the blame. It was just one of those things. I got excited and let the moment just get away from me. Again, I take full responsibility for this."
Utah Quarterback Travis Wilson "Our team is always good at fighting back and never giving in. We made a push late, but just couldn't get the job done."
"Taking shots down field is something that we lacked the last couple of games. We started off fast and I thought we made big plays at times."
Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich
On getting the victory - "A gutty win. A gutty, gutty win by our team. A huge turn of events, obviously, on the fumble going into the end zone. A great lesson for all of us. Just really, really proud of our effort. We had a bunch of guys in and out of the lineup all over the place. An incredible effort by our guys. Definitely not a garden-variety 51-27 win; but a big, big win for a lot of reasons. "
On the momentum swing of Kaelin Clay's fumble at the goal line that led to Joe Walker touchdown - "It's a lot better being tied 7-7 than being down 14-0. Our guys would have kept playing, no question. We wouldn't have flinched, but that was huge. And then we drove down there and sort of flipped the field on them for a couple of drives. We were able to get some field goals--obviously we would have preferred touchdowns--but those were big as far as just kind of keeping the pressure on those guys offensively. They did a nice job making some adjustments with their attack as well with the screen game complimenting the run game that they've had."
On the halftime message to his team - "Compete. We knew we were in for a dogfight. As you saw, these guys are extremely physical and a very well-coached team. They play their tails off. They have a bunch of experienced guys, whether it's from being here or junior college guys who have played a ton of football. And we were in for a dog fight. We had no bones about that."
