2015 Utah Skiing Season Outlook
DENVER - The Utah ski team opens its season ranked second in the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association SYNC Poll, released Friday by the organization.
The Utes garnered 94 points to rank second behind Denver (112 points). Colorado and Vermont tied for third while New Mexico rounds out the top five.
The organization also released separate alpine and Nordic polls, with Utah ranking second in the alpine poll with 49 points, 10 points behind Denver (59). The Utes were picked third in the Nordic poll with 45 points, trailing Denver (53) and Colorado (52). Denver won last year's NCAA title.
The poll, sponsored by SYNC Performance and voted on by coaches around the nation, is in its first season.
The Utes look to have a strong 2015 campaign, returning seven All-Americans and 10 skiers who competed in last year's NCAA Championships in addition to several recruits with a wealth of international experience. Returning All-Americans include Sloan Storey and Niklas Persson in nordic and Chloe Fausa, Ana Kobal, Kristiina Rove, Joergen Brath and Andy Trow in alpine.
Utah's season begins with a pair of giant slalom RMISA qualifiers, Jan. 6-7, at Park City Mountain Resort. The Utes host the Utah Invitational at PCMR and Soldier Hollow from Jan. 9-12.
