SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah ski team has announced the selection of Joergen Brath, Chloe Fausa, Nick Hendrickson and Sloan Storey as team captains for the 2016 season. Brath and Fausa are alpine captains while Hendrickson and Storey serve for the Nordic squad.
Brath earned All-America honors in the giant slalom in 2014. He has two career top-5 finishes and 10 career top-10 finishes.
Fausa is a two-time All-American, earning honors in the giant slalom in 2014 and 2015. She has four career wins and eight career podium finishes and is a two-time first-team All-RMISA selection.
"I am thrilled with the selection of Chloe and Joergen as this year's team captains," Utah alpine head coach Jaka Korencan said. "Their hard work, focus and discipline make them well deserved of this honor. I am extremely proud of their unparalleled academic and athletic success. I truly believe they will do a fantastic job of leading and supporting this great group of athletes."
Hendrickson joined the Utes last year following a five-year stint with the U.S. Nordic Combined team. He qualified for the NCAA Championships, serving as an alternate due to team limits, and had a pair of top-5 finishes during the season.
"Nick is a new captain for us this year, and he steps into this position in only his second year on the team," Utah nordic head coach Abi Holt said. "I think the fact that he has earned this role [via votes from his teammates] after just one year of skiing for us speaks strongly to Nick's mature, grounded perspective on sport and life. He brings a kind and unflappable presence to this team that we all appreciate, and I look forward to working with Nick as a captain this year."
A five-time All-American with honors in both the freestyle and classical disciplines, Storey has four career podium finishes. She is a two-time first-team All-RMISA selection. Storey has 12 career top-5 finishes and 24 career top-10 finishes.
"At this point, it is little surprise to see Sloan head into her third year as co-captain of the Nordic ski team," Holt said. "On the ski trails, in the classroom, and in extracurriculars, Sloan is a strong leader and ambassador of Utah skiing. Her teammates respect her, and she helps this team find a nice balance between fun and competition. I'm happy to see her return to this role in her senior year."
In addition to their athletic accomplishments, all four were named to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team in 2015.
The 2016 ski schedule opens with the Utah Invitational on Monday, Jan. 4, held at Park City Mountain and Soldier Hollow resorts.
