No. 3 Utah goes to 6-1 and 3-1 in Pac-12 Conference play with a 42-24 loss at USC. Utah is now 4-10 all-time against USC. The Utes are 17-23 in league games as a member of the Pac-12 Conference.
Utah is 16-3 when ranked in the top 10 of the Associated Press poll.
Freshman Britain Covey had a season-high 129 receiving yards (seven catches) and two touchdowns (66 and 30 yards). His 66-yard touchdown catch was the longest of this season. He leads the team with four touchdown receptions this season and is second on the team with five TDs overall. He also had a 40-yard punt return that set up the Ute offense on USC's 2-yard line in the first quarter.
The Utes had 14.0 tackles for loss, which is tied for second in school history. Utah also came up with 4.0 sacks.
Gionni Paul set a career high with 17 tackles, his fourth career double-figure tackle performance. Paul had 5.5 tackles for loss, the second-most in a single game in school history.
Andy Phillips went 1-for-1 in field goals with a career-long make from 53 yards. He is now 11-for-14 this season and has made 51 career field goals (51-of-62). He is 4-for-4 on attempts from 50 or more yards in his career. He was 3-for-3 on PAT attempts.
Jason Whittingham had a season-high nine tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss (0.5 sacks). Hunter Dimick had a team-high 1.5 sacks (total of 2.0 TFL). He has 23.0 TFL in his career and 14.0 sacks. Sunia Tauteoli recorded a 0.5 TFL, while Kyle Fitts registered 1.0 sack.
Junior Cory Butler-Byrd played on both sides of the ball for the third time this season and he blocked a punt, the first for the Utes this season.
Redshirt freshman Chase Hansen recorded stats for the first time at safety with four tackles (0.5 TFL).
Senior quarterback Travis Wilson made his sixth start of the season (tied school record with 33rd career start).He is 5-1 as the starter (20-13 career). Wilson was 24-of-35 passing (68.6%) for 254 yards and two touchdowns. He is third in school history with 50 career touchdown passes.
Senior Bubba Poole rushed for a 2-yard touchdown in the first quarter, his first score of the season. He has six career rushing touchdowns. He also had three receptions.
Senior running back Devontae Booker had 111 all-purpose yards, including 62 rushing yards (21 carries) and also added 49 receiving yards (season high six catches).
Tom Hackett averaged 43.2 yards on five punts (216 yards) with three downed inside the 20.
After USC scored on its first possession, Utah responded with 14 straight points. The Utes have scored first in all but two games this season.
