Launiere Earns 500th Win as Volleyball Defeats Oregon State

- Utah head volleyball coach Beth Launiere picked up her 500th career win in the Utes' 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20) victory against Oregon State Sunday afternoon at the Huntsman Center.
Launiere, who is in her 26th season at the helm of the Utah Volleyball program, is now 500-317 all-time following the victory on Sunday. All 500 of Launiere's career wins have come at Utah.
"It was really exciting to get a pair of wins at home this weekend," said Launiere. "To get career win No. 500, it really is just a true testament to the program and the great players that we have had come through here. All the wins have been great. There have been a lot of big wins and I am just glad that today was another one of them."

Utah picked up its second win after downing both Oregon squads over the weekend, and the team reeled off back-to-back wins for the first time since defeating Utah State and Montana back on Sept. 1 and 4 earlier this season.
The Utes improved to 9-14 overall and 3-9 in Pac-12 play with the victory, while the Beavers dropped to 4-18 overall and 2-10 in league contests.
Adora Anae tallied a career-high 28 kills to break the school record for most kills in a match during the rally-scoring era. The sophomore outside hitter has now broken the record on three separate occasions this season after recording 26 kills against Lipsomb back on Aug. 29 and then posting 27 kills against California on Oct. 18. Anae has posted 20-plus kills in eight matches this season and nine times in her first two seasons with the Utes.
Junior Tess Sutton led five different Utah players that posted double-digit dig efforts on Sunday, after recording a match-high 24 digs against the Beavers. Freshman Megan Shughrou followed with 19 digs and senior Kendall Cygan tallied 18 digs in the match, while redshirt freshman Jessie Jorgensen added 15 digs and Anae totaled 10 digs.
Utah finished the match with a season-high 91 digs - four more digs then the team's previous season-high of 87 digs, which came against Oregon State back on Oct. 2, in Corvallis, Ore.
Utah had three players notch double-doubles in the match as well, with Cygan posting a team-high 30 assists to go along with her 18 digs, Jorgensen added 24 assists in addition to her 15 digs and Anae's notched her double-double with her 28 kills and 10 digs.
The Utes out-blocked the Beavers 9.5 to 8.0 in total team blocks on Sunday. Senior Brenna DeYoung led the team with seven total blocks and sophomore Eliza Katoa added five total blocks on the day.
Utah totaled 65 kills and hit .268 as a team, while limiting the Beavers to just a .189 hitting percentage in the match. It was the first time that Utah posted a hitting percentage of .250 or better since hitting .260 against Seton Hall back on Sept. 12.
"Hopefully we can take these wins that we got this weekend and used them as a confidence builder heading into the next week," said Launiere. "Ever week just gets keeps getting tougher, but I think that we can use these victories as building blocks as we move forward."
The Utes return to action next weekend with a pair of matches in Southern California, taking on UCLA this Friday, Nov. 6 and then taking on USC on Sunday, Nov. 8.
