LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Utah volleyball team snapped its recent two-match win streak, falling to the No. 9-ranked UCLA Bruins in four sets (16-25, 20-25, 25-21, 16-25) Friday evening at Pauley Pavilion.
The Utes (9-15, 3-10 Pac-12), who snapped a nine-match losing streak last weekend, fell behind 2-0 in the match after hitting just .167 and .064 in the first and second sets, respectively, but then turned around to post a .233 hitting percentage to take the third frame and pull within a set of the Bruins (19-4, 10-3 Pac-12), down 2-1.
UCLA saved its best offensive performance for the fourth and eventual final set though, collecting 12 kills and just one hitting error, while recording a .367 attack percentage on the way to taking the frame, 25-16, and earning the 3-1 win at home.
The Utes remained winless against the Bruins in Los Angeles as UCLA improved to 7-0 all-time at home against Utah. The Bruins have now won two straight against Utah after sweeping the season series from the Utes in 2015.
Sophomore Adora Anae recorded her 15th double-double of the season with a team-high 12 kills and 23 digs, while senior Kendall Cygan collected her seventh double-double of the season and 25th of her career with 20 kills and 10 digs.
Cygan now has 2,289 career assists and is just 21 assists shy from overtaking Katie Gesto (2,309 career assists) for sole possession of sixth-place on the school's all-time career assists list.
Sophomore Eliza Katoa recorded 10 kills and no hitting errors on the way to setting a new career-high with a .556 hitting percentage in a single match. Redshirt freshman Jessie Jorgensen tallied a team-high 25 assists and senior Brenna DeYoung led Utah at the net with a team-high five total blocks.
UCLA's Jordan Anderson led all players with 25 kills on the evening, while teammate Zana Muno posted team-highs in both assists (47) and digs (19). The Bruins hit .226, collected 82 digs and posted 14.0 total team blocks.
Utah closes out its trip to Los Angeles on Sunday, taking on USC at the Galen Center. First serve between the Utes and No. 2-ranked Trojans is set for 11 a.m. PT/12 p.m. MT.
