Utah Postgame Notes Utah vs. Oregon State
No. 13 Utah improves to 7-1 and 4-1 in Pac-12 Conference play with a 27-12 win against Oregon State. Utah is now 8-11-1 all-time against Oregon State and has won six of the last nine matchups. The Utes are 18-23 in league games as a member of the Pac-12 Conference and 5-0 at home this season.
Utah is 6-2 in Blackout games, beating TCU (2008), Wyoming (2009), Oregon State (2011, 2015), Cal (2012), USC (2014), and losing to TCU (2010) and UCLA (2013). The Utes have won four of their last five Blackout contests.
Attendance for the game was 45,853. Utah has sold out 36-consecutive games in Rice-Eccles stadium, dating back to the 2010 season opener. Of the sellouts, 33 were played before standing room only crowds, including the top-two crowds in school history this season (47,825 vs. Michigan and 47,798 vs. Cal).
The Utes scored the first 14 points of the contest in the first quarter and stopped the Beavers on their first two drives of the game. Utah outgained OSU by a 176-39 margin in the opening quarter, including a 110-12 edge in rushing yards while possessing the ball for 9:16.
Senior running back Devontae Booker had 121 rushing yards (25 carries) with a 1-yard touchdown run. He leads the team with nine rushing TDs this season and his 19th career rushing touchdown is tied for seventh in school history. This was his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season and the 12th of his career, which is tied for second in school history. Booker also added 25 receiving yards (three catches) and ended with a team-high 146 all-purpose yards.
Senior quarterback Travis Wilson made his seventh start of the season and broke the school record with his 34th career start. He is 6-1 as the starter this season and his 21 career wins (21-13) ties him for second all-time with Alex Smith. Travis Wilson was 14-of-17 passing for 198 yards and one touchdown. His .824 completion percentage was the sixth-highest for a single game in school history. Wilson was also the team's second-leading rusher with 56 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown run (two yards), his fourth rushing touchdown of the season. Wilson moves into third in school history in both career completions (582) and total offense (7,769).
Six different Utes caught passes. Kenneth Scott had a team-high 44 yards (2 catches), including a 37-yarder to put Utah in a first-and-goal situation in the fourth quarter. Sophomore tight end Harrison Handley had 43 receiving yards (2 catches), including a 39-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter. He is second on the team with three touchdown receptions this season. Freshman Britain Covey had 36 receiving yards (three catches).
Tevin Carter (9 tackles, 1 TFL) and Jared Norris (9 tackles, 0.5 TFL) led the defense in tackles, with Carter tying his career high. Senior defensive end Jason Fanaika had a team-high 2.5 TFL (six tackles). Redshirt freshman safety Chase Hansen made his first career sack in the fourth quarter.
Reginald Porter had four pass breakups, which is tied for the most all-time in a game and the most a player has had in a game since 2007. The Utes had seven pass breakups on the night.
Andy Phillips went 2-for-2 in field goals with makes from 49 and 45 yards. He is now 13-for-16 this season, including 6-of-9 from 40+ yards.
