SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the signing of 11 athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Signing NLI's for the Utes include four products of Utah: Riley Pierce (Salem Hills HS/Salem, Utah), Tyler Thompson (Lone Peak HS/Highland, Utah), Oliver Dunn (Cottonwood HS/Salt Lake City, Utah) and Spencer Johnson (College of Southern Idaho/Syracuse HS/Syracuse, Utah). Thompson will be serving an LDS mission before joining the Utes. Other signees are Davis Delorefice (Rodriguez HS/Fairfield, Calif.), Dominic Foscalina (Livermore HS/Livermore, Calif.), Alex Isola (Jesuit HS/Lincoln, Calif.), Sam Mundt (Central Catholic HS/Hughson, Calif.), Matt Ornelia (Vista HS/Vista, Calif.), Jacob Rebar (Merrill F. West HS/Tracy, Calif.) and Zach Trageton (Faith Lutheran HS/Las Vegas, Nev.).
"We are very excited about this class," Kinneberg said. "We have several seniors and so we hit our needs for the future and are looking forward to bringing them on campus."

Kinneberg on Delorefice: Davis possesses a very high baseball IQ. He is an instinctive player who is a consistent middle infielder and is very versatile offensively. He has a maturity about him that makes us believe it will be an easy transition to college.
All-Monticello Empire League as a junior ... hit .419 with seven triples and 12 RBI ... .616 slugging percentage and 4-of-5 stolen bases ... .923 fielding percentage ... 2015 Preseason Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention ... hit .344 as a junior with five doubles and had a .913 fielding percentage.
Dominic Foscalina

Kinneberg on Foscalina: Dominic is a very good athlete. He is a versatile player who could excel at several positions and his skill set fits our offensive approach.
Hit .270 as a junior with 20 RBI ... four stolen bases ... 1-2 with 13 strikeouts and a 3.71 ERA as a pitcher (six games) ... 2014 and 2015 Preseason Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention ...2014 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Baseball Underclass Team (second-team outfield) and was the only sophomore named to the All-East Bay League first team ... hit .341 with 22 runs, eight doubles and eight stolen bases ... did not make an error in 25 games ... invited to the 2013 15U National Team Trials ... also an all-league selection in soccer.

Kinneberg on Isola: Alex is a very good defensive catcher. His maturity behind the plate is going to make the pitching staff better and he also has a chance to hit with some power from the right side.
Earned an Outstanding Service Award as a sophomore and junior ... honor roll ... also played basketball.
Sam Mundt

Kinneberg on Mundt: Sam is a physically impressive right-handed pitcher. He has also played football but this will be his first year concentrating solely on baseball, and we are excited to see his development and growth as a one-sport athlete.
All-Valley Oak League pitcher as a junior with a 5-4 record and 1.38 ERA over 55 2/3 innings pitched, throwing four complete games ... 54 strikeouts ... hit .231 with 18 RBI and three home runs ... 1-1 with a 4.34 ERA in five games with 18 strikeouts as a sophomore, hitting .304 with eight home runs and five doubles ... also an all-league player in football, playing on the defensive line and at tight end ... 59 tackles with three sacks and four pass breakups as a junior ... brother Johnny Mundt is a junior tight end at Oregon.
Matt Ornelia

Kinneberg on Ornelia: Matt is a pure hitter and has some power. He is a good corner outfielder who could also play center field.
First-team Avocado West League as a junior ... .379 batting average with seven doubles, 15 RBI and eight stolen bases ... hit .308 as a sophomore with seven doubles, 14 RBI and six stolen bases ... .229 batting average as a freshman.
Riley Pierce

Kinneberg on Pierce: Riley is one of the better left-handed pitchers in the state. He has a projectable body and will continue to get better with his work ethic.
2015 Area Code Games ... honorable mention all-state and second-team all-region as a junior ... 6-2 record with a 4.82 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 12 appearances on the mound ... hit .286 with seven RBI (14 at-bats) ... Salem Hills was the Region 8 champions and made it to the state semifinals.
Jacob Rebar

Tracy, Calif.
Kinneberg on Rebar: Jacob is rebounding from Tommy John surgery last year and has a chance to be an impact two-way player for us. He is starting to get back to where he was before the injury and is expected to pitch this spring. He is also an athletic first baseman with a lot of power.
Two-time first-team all-Tri-City Athletic League ... invited to the 2013 15U National Team Trials ... participated in the USA Baseball National Team Identification Series several years.
Tyler Thompson

Highland, Utah
Kinneberg on Thompson: Tyler is a true center fielder with great instincts. He has a left-handed bat and can hit to all fields.
Will serve an LDS mission before enrolling at Utah ... first-team all-state as a junior, hitting .489 with 28 RBI, 14 doubles and seven stolen bases ... .800 slugging percentage ... first-team all-Region 4 and a National High School Baseball Coaches Association All-District selection ... second-team all-region as a sophomore, hitting .357 with 20 RBI and was 1-0 on the mound with a 3.75 ERA and seven strikeouts.
Zach Trageton

Kinneberg on Trageton: Zach is a very polished three-pitch mix guy who played on a really good travel team, the Ohio Warhawks, and has had a lot of success to this point. His velocity has continued to grow throughout the year.
Division I-A Southern Region Player of the Year and all-state utility player as a junior ... led the team with a .467 batting average and had 11 doubles, three triples, 25 RBI and 15 stolen bases while going 6-3 on the mound with a 2.35 ERA and 88 strikeouts ... SilverStatePreps.com Division I-A Utility Player of the Year ... Faith Lutheran finished second in the state.
Oliver Dunn

Kinneberg on Dunn: Oliver is another guy with good baseball instincts and savvy. He is a really good middle infielder defensively and a top of the order batter who can also run.
2015 Area Code Games ... hit .417 as a junior with six triples, 19 RBI and five stolen bases.
Spencer Johnson

Kinneberg on Johnson: Spencer was a really good high school pitcher and has gotten better now that he has grown. He is a high-velocity guy who has a chance to grab a significant role for us.
Entering his freshman year at the College of Southern Idaho ... served an LDS mission in Argentina ... two-time all-region at Syracuse HS, including earning first-team honors as a senior ... also played football, leading Syracuse to a second-place state finish in 2013.
