UTAH vs. IDAHO STATE POST GAME QUOTES
Utah 102, Idaho State 72
Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
On the win tonight...
"Idaho State hit five of its first seven shots, a couple deep threes, a cutter from out of bounds, so yeah that wasn't how it was supposed to start. Once we started defending and getting some stops, they're a little bit of an undersized team so we managed to gain the advantage inside with Jakob [Poeltl] and Kyle [Kuzma]. We hit as many threes as we've hit all season, it was a nice combination overall."
On playing well against Idaho State...
"Well we watched enough video on [Ali] Faruq-Bey from their team, who basically scores a point a minute. It's like the old "Microwave" on the Pistons - he had been coming off the bench, but he started in this game, Brandon closed out short on him a couple of times, that was six points, then they threw a nice wrinkle from an inbounds play and got a layup, but we weren't as dialed in as we needed to be. They hit big shots and challenged our guys to play defense. It was pretty simple for the most part, I think we did a terrific job guarding the dribble and our bigs did a very solid job of protecting the rim and getting a couple blocks. We just needed a little spur action."
Sophomore Kyle Kuzma
On difference between tonight and Puerto Rico...
"I just got my focus back, I didn't play up to my standards in Puerto Rico so I just got back in the gym to get my focus right."
On being spread out...
"We played Southern Utah earlier in the year who had some similarities, and we did really well contesting shots and blocking shots. We kept them in front of us."
Sophomore Jakob Poeltl
On slow start...
"At first we struggled a little bit with their zone. We were just standing around and moving the ball and didn't do much. We started it out by playing some better defense which got us running a little. We started finding holes in the zone and we were hitting our shots and that's really how we ran away."
On the mismatch inside...
"We knew they were an undersized team. In general we were the taller and more physical team. I tried to be aggressive with it and they did a good job taking it away. I wasn't as active as I wanted to be, and I turned that around and it went a lot better."
On his breakaway dunk...
"It started off with the whole team denying passing lanes, so they were forced to go high post and I saw that so I went for it. It's just one of those energy plays, we had a couple like Kuzma's lob dunk. It brings a lot of energy to you and it gets you hyped up, you have to take that momentum and keep going with it.

Idaho State Head Coach Bill Evans
Impressions on Jakob Poeltl…
"He is going to make more money than me and you combined. He is a really good player. He is a good kid. He has the right attitude. I was really impressed with him - the way he conducted himself, the way he handled himself, the way he talked to his teammates. I think he is really good."
What makes Poeltl so strong around the basket…
"I mean, he has good feet but he also has good size and good physical strength. That is a good combination. He was blessed with a lot of good characteristics."
On Utah's size…
"They are a good team. They made jump shots. They haven't made jump shots this year yet. Tucker had made maybe two threes and tonight he made three. They got it to roll a little bit. Sometimes we had to guard their post people. We gambled a little bit and tried to take away their big guy, it made us pay. We turned over the ball too much. We couldn't rebound the ball. They scored, 38, 39, 40 points in the paint. They were bigger than us and stronger"
