Semifinalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award … was named to the CBSSports.com Freshman All-American team … also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman squad … among the top college players to take part in in the first annual Nike Basketball Academy in Southern California during the summer of 2014, where he received instruction from NBA coaches and select NBA players such as Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and LeBron James ... ranked 11th in the Pac-12 with 6.8 rebounds per game … led the conference and ranked fourth in the nation with a 68.1 shooting percentage (128-188) from the field … tallied a Utah freshman record 63 blocks on the season … his 1.85 blocks per game ranked third in the Pac-12 … his 311 points ranks 9th most on Utah's all-time freshmen leaderboard … pulled down 230 total rebounds, which ranks fourth most in the freshmen record book … started in all 34 games that he appeared in during his first season with the Runnin' Utes … suited up for the first time against Ball State (11/14) and made an immediate impact with 18 points in the contest … scored a season-high 24 points against North Dakota (11/28) … pulled down season-high 12 boards against San Diego State 911/18) and North Dakota (11/28) … tallied three double-doubles on the season … was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field against North Dakota (11/28).
Prior to Utah
Hailing from Austria, Poeltl was named an all-star after averaging 12.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game for the Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions … In 2013, he captained the U-18 Austrian national team at the European Championships and was named to the second team by Eurobasket … was part of the national championship team at the U-16 level and dominated the `B' division of the Bundesliga, being named two-time MVP when he suited up for the Vienna DC Timberwolves.
