ATLANTA--Utah senior Tom Hackett won his second-straight Ray Guy Award as the nation's best college punter and was also honored as a first-team Walter Camp All-American at the Home Depot College Football Awards aired live on ESPN.
Hackett, who attended the event with Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham and family members visiting from his native Australia, becomes the third two-time winner in the history of the award.
He is the only Ray Guy Award winner in Utah and Pac-12 history and last week was named as the punter on the Pac-12 All-Century team.
His selection as a Walter Camp first-team All-American also marks back-to-back years for Hackett on the nation's oldest All-America team. He is the only two-time first-team Walter Camp All-American in Utah history. Five former Utes made the Walter Camp first team in a single season: Jordan Gross (2002), Louie Sakoda (2008), Shaky Smithson (2010), Star Lotulelei (2012) and Nate Orchard (2014).
Hackett, a 2014 consensus All-American, has now made the first of the five teams used by the NCAA to determine the season's consensus All-Americans. The others are the Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Sporting News.
He has also been named to three other All-America teams to date: USA Today (1st team), Sports Illustrated (1st team), CBS Sports (2nd team). He was joined on the CBS second team by junior kicker Andy Phillips.
Utah leads the nation in net punting (43.67) behind Hackett, whose 47.8 punt average leads the Pac-12 and ranks third in the nation. The three-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection has placed 24 of his 55 punts inside the 20-yard line (43.6%), 11 inside the 10-yard line and two inside the five and leads the Pac-12 in punts of 50+ yards with 20.
